CWS DAY ONE ENDS IN WALK-OFFS:

The College World Series has once again arrived in Omaha, and arrived in style in opening play yesterday.

Vance Honeycutt came through again for North Carolina baseball in the College World Series, driving in an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to walk-off the first game of the series against Virginia.

In game two, Tennessee’s improbable comeback propelled a high-scoring affair, with the Volunteers outlasting Florida State 12-11.

Today’s matchups include Kentucky facing NC State while Texas A&M faces Florida. Both games can be seen on ESPN and heard on our Omaha sister-station 1620 The Zone.

MISKO SENIORS TAKE SECOND WIN IN ARKANSAS:

The Kearney Misko Sports Seniors began their long trek to Arkansas with a split Thursday at the Chad Wolf Classic.

After falling to Tulsa’s BBA Titans 9-1, Kearney then defeated the Arkansas Prospects 7-1, featuring a complete game effort from Derrick Nonhof allowing no earned runs with five strikeouts.

Friday, the seniors handled their business for an early morning contest winning 9-1 over the Inside Edge squad of Kansas City.

One day after Derrick Nonhof threw a complete game for a Kearney win, Rhett Mundorf followed up his own solo performance. The pitcher went six innings, allowing seven hits with an earned run and seven strikeouts.

The Misko Seniors are back in action on Saturday morning for another 8:30 AM first pitch as they take on the Midwest Mavericks.

SCHILKE FLIPS COMMITMENT TO WILDCATS:

The talented Kearney High School linebacker is back on the move.

Sawyer Schilke, a Class of 2025 Edge linebacker prospect from Kearney High School, announced his commitment to Kansas State. Schilke had originally committed to Northern Illinois on April 16.

The incoming senior’s flip came after a camp visit and conversation with Wildcat head coach Chris Klieman back on June 8.

It is the first Power Five conference scholarship offered to Schilke, who has also drawn interest from Minnesota and Nebraska, per his social media pages.

SEARS TAKES THIRD ALL-AMERICAN HONOR:

Senior Brett Sears earned Second-Team All-American recognition from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings, the organization announced Friday morning.

Sears’ second-team All-American honor is the highest by an NU starting pitcher since Aaron Marsden in 2003 after being named a second-team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Perfect Game earlier this week.

Prior to the All-American accolades, the senior was a first-team all-region selection and named the District 6 Player of the Year earlier this month.

TOMINAGA SIGNS WITH CURRY BRAND:

The former sharpshooter for Nebraska Basketball has reached an exclusive shoe deal with another legendary shooter.

Former Nebraska guard Keisei Tominaga agreed to a multi-year sneaker deal with The Curry Brand, becoming the first international athlete in the process.

He led the Big Red to their first tournament appearance in a decade, averaging 15 points per game this past season. The former Cornhusker will turn pro later this summer, but will have a chance to showcase his international talent for his home country of Japan.
