OMAHA – The thrilling start to the 2024 College World Series continued on Saturday, as day two featured another walk-off win while the second contest featured a finish well after midnight.

Mitchell Daly’s home run with two outs in the 10th inning off Derrick Smith gave No. 2 seed Kentucky a 5-4 walk-off win over No. 10 NC State in the first game of Saturday’s action. The Wildcats’ victory was the third walk-off finish in the first three games at Charles Schwab Field.

Not long after the first game of the day, a lightning storm hit Omaha that shut down any possibility of the game beginning at its scheduled 6 p.m. start time. Play finally began at 10 p.m. local time, one hour before NCAA rules would have forced organizers to move the game to Sunday.

Florida threatened late in the contest, scoring twice in the seventh and going bases loaded in the eight, but ultimately the Gators fell short falling 3-2 to Texas A&M as the game concluded just after 1 AM.

Today’s matchups include an elimination matchup between Virginia and Florida State at 1 PM, while North Carolina battles Tennessee at 6 PM. Both games can be seen on ESPN and heard on the KGFW Omaha-based sister station 1620 The Zone.
