BOSTON, MASS. – The Boston Celtics historic franchise record continues to grow, as New England sports fans continue to celebrate their winning ways after a Game Five blowout victory over the Dallas Mavericks Monday night.

Jayson Tatum, beleaguered entering another professional season without a title, led the way in the close-out game, scoring 31 points, 11 assists, and eight rebounds as Boston toppled the Mavericks 106-88 for the franchise’s 18th championship. The Finals victory sets the Celtics ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers seventeen titles for the most by an NBA franchise.

The win came on the same date sixteen years after the Celtics claimed their last title with their “Big Three” of Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen back in 2008.

Tatum was the catalyst in Game Five, but Jaylen Brown was the consistent threat through the series, taking the Finals Most Valuable Player honor as he added 21 points, eight rebounds, and six assists in the final contest.

The victory also secured another championship for the city of Boston, as the New England area teams have now ended their title “drought” – nearly five and a half years since the area’s last professional championship, the second longest stretch in the city’s history.

The Celtics are early season odds favorites for next season’s championship, set with the best odds to take back-to-back championships. Boston sits ahead of the Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves for the early-betting 2025 favorites.
