GRAND ISLAND — A Grand Island woman charged with felony child abuse resulting in the death of a two-month-old Grand Island boy has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Bianca Y Rivera Lima, 27, of 319 E. 16th St. was caring for the boy in child care when he sustained injuries.

Rivera Lima entered the plea June 17. A pretrial conference before Hall County District Judge Andrew Butler is set for 1:30 p.m. July 9. A jury trial has been scheduled to start at 9 a.m. Aug. 5.

Hall County Deputy Attorney David Medlin is the prosecutor in the case. Chinedu Igbokwe of Omaha is representing Rivera Lima.
According to a Grand Island Police Department probable cause statement, police responded to Rivera Lima’s residence on April 22 regarding a two-month-old boy not breathing. The boy was in daycare while his parents were at work.

“The child was flown to Children’s Hospital in Omaha, where he had extreme bleeding around the brain and retinal hemorrhaging. The child has not displayed any movement or signs of life since transported to CHI, here in Grand Island. Per the medical professionals in Omah these injuries were from severe shaking and/or a ‘slamming.’ They also advised that the injuries were intentional. Bianca was the only adult with the child during the time of the injury. She also delayed a call to 911 for an unknown reason.”
