KEARNEY BASEBALL TAKES COLUMBUS SWEEP:

Kearney Legion Baseball earned a sweep victory in Pawnee Park on Wednesday evening, as the Post 52 Pinnacle Bank Juniors won 6-1 while the Kearney Misko Sports Seniors edged past Columbus Cornerstone 2-0.

The Kearney Seniors had a complete game effort from pitcher Derrick Nonhof, working all seven innings giving up no runs on five hits. The Misko Seniors (9-8) won with two runs on seven hits with one error while Columbus fell, garnering only five hits.

The Misko Seniors stay home for a three-game weekend at Memorial Field, welcoming a home quad beginning Saturday in Kearney. A full schedule for the weekend will be released later this week. The Post 52 Juniors are off until a road trip to North Platte on Tuesday, June 25.

COLLEGE WORLD SERIES SETS FINALS BETWEEN TENNESSEE, AGGIES:

The College World Series final set is finally set after twelve exciting contests beginning last weekend in Omaha.

After beginning with eight teams from the ACC and SEC combined, only two SEC schools remain. Tennessee took down Florida State 7-2 while Florida was eliminated by Texas A&M 6-0, setting up a Volunteer and Aggie final beginning later this weekend.

Game One of the College World Series finals begins on Saturday night at 6:30 PM with television coverage on ESPN.

UNK SOCCER ADDS FOUR RECRUITS TO COMPLETE 2024 CYCLE:

Nebraska Kearney head women’s soccer coach Rob Breton announced today the names of four newcomers who’ll take to the pitch for the Lopers this fall.

In January, Breton announced the signing of a mid-year transfer and five incoming freshmen. This latest group features transfers Hanna Schimmer (Midland U.) and Keila Gillispie (Kansas State U.), freshmen Camrynn Nitta (Honolulu, Hawai’i) and redshirt sophomore Riley Jensen (Bellevue East). She previously played basketball for the Lopers.

UNK reports to fall camp on Monday, Aug. 19, with the regular season opener set for Friday, Sept. 6, at Sioux Falls.

LOPER ALUM TRANSITIONS TO UNK GRAD ASSISTANT:

UNK volleyball’s newest graduate assistant is a familiar face. As first reported by KSNB Local 4, Jaden Ferguson is transitioning to the coaching role following her one-year playing career for the Lopers. The Lincoln native and Lincoln Southeast alum transferred to the program after playing four years at Northwest Missouri State.

Ferguson made the trip to Palmer on Wednesday to lead a UNK traveling volleyball camp, where she gave back to elementary and middle school girls in the area.

TIGER WOODS’ SON, CHARLIE, QUALIFIES FOR USGA EVENT:

Charlie Woods earned his way into his first USGA championship on Wednesday when the 15-year-old son of Tiger Woods had the leading score among qualifiers for the U.S. Junior Amateur next month at Oakland Hills.

Charlie Woods recovered from a bogey-double bogey start at Eagle Trace Golf Club to finish with a 1-under 71 to be medalist from his qualifier, one of four players to qualify from the site.

Tiger Woods was 14 when he qualified for his first U.S. Junior, reaching the semifinals. Woods won his first U.S. Junior Amateur a year later at Bay Hill in 19 holes. Woods is the only player to win the U.S. Junior three straight times.
