HASTINGS — Fireworks sales begin Friday, June 28 within Hastings city limits under the city’s Code of Ordinances.
Permissible fireworks may be sold and ignited the following times and days:
- 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., June 28 to July 2
- 10 a.m. to midnight, July 3 and 4
Fireworks may not be used on any public street, alley, sidewalk, park or other property owned by the City of Hastings without a special permit issued by Hastings Fire & Rescue.
Fireworks may not be thrown from or into any motor vehicle.
Sky lanterns or any other free-floating device that includes a flame or heating device used as a lifting mechanism are prohibited.
Anthony Murphy, Risk Reduction Officer with Hastings Fire & Rescue, would like to remind everyone to remain diligent to prevent fires and burn injuries. Adults should light and/or supervise the fireworks, and everyone should soak used fireworks in a bucket of water overnight.
Veterans and pets don’t necessarily enjoy the noise; Please be mindful of your neighbors and pets and observe the hours of discharge allowed by code.
Hastings Fire & Rescue is once again providing citizens the opportunity to drop off unused, consumer grade fireworks for disposal.
Drop off must be made at one of the two station locations:
- Station 1: 1313 North Hastings Avenue
- Station 2: 1145 South Hastings Avenue
Homemade fireworks will not be accepted. Fireworks must be turned over directly to fire station personnel—not dropped off unattended.
Drop off hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Fireworks collection will end on July 31, at which time Hastings Fire & Rescue will properly dispose of the inventory collected.
