GRAND ISLAND — A 17-year-old male was arrested in Grand Island after he attempted to evade a traffic stop and a firearm and a small amount of marijuana was found in the vehicle.
On Sunday, June 23 at 3:07 a.m., officers with the Grand Island Police Department observed a vehicle with a defective headlight turn east onto 1st St. from Oak St.
Officers moved closer to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle would take off at a high rate of speed, turning at multiple intersections in an attempt to lose officers.
Eventually, a traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was found to be a juvenile male. Officers say the male admitted to possessing a small amount of marijuana.
A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, and a Tarus firearm was located in the center console of the vehicle.
A records check indicated the juvenile male was prohibited from being in possession of firearms due to a previous felony conviction.
The male was cited for unlawful possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, unlawful possession of a firearm by a minor, reckless driving, possession of marijuana – less than one ounce and no operator’s license.
