KEARNEY — The American Automobile Experience in Kearney will feature six vehicles from the private collection of Metallica’s James Hetfield.

The cars are being transported from the Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. The six from the collection include:

  • 1932 Ford Roadster – “Blackjack”

Hetfield insisted that his 1932 Deuce Coupe only feature parts that would have been available to modifiers from back in the day, according to British GQ.

  • 1936 Auburn 852 Speedster – “Slow Burn”

The 1936 Auburn is based on an original Boat Tail Speedster but modified by Rick Dore Kustoms.

  • 1936 Ford Coupe – “Iron Fist”

“Having owned this ratty 1936 Ford for a few years, Hetfield decided to show the old beater some love in 2006 and enlisted Blue Collar Customs to give it a major,” British GQ said in an article.

  • 1937 Ford Coupe – “Crimson Ghost”

“The hard-topped roof has been chopped, the fenders and running boards reshaped and it has the standard Hetfield-modified grille,” per British GQ.

  • 1937 Lincoln Zephyr – “Voodoo Priest”

Hetfield retained the art-deco styling of the original Lincoln Zephyr, which had sat uncared for in a driveway in Sacramento, Calif.

  • 1956 Ford F-100 – “Str8 Edge”

The pickup received a hot-rod makeover in a collaboration between Hetfield-Blue Collar Customs and the vocalist and BCC main man Scott Mugford.

The American Automobile Experience recently celebrated its re-brand from the Classic Car Collection.

To reinvigorate the facility, it was decided to shift from a static display of cars to now exclusively features vehicles on loan.

It was noted that many of the vehicles in the former Classic Car Collection were pre-war vehicles but now the focus is on vehicles that have a wider appeal to the public. This includes 1960s, 1970s and 1980s era muscle cars.

“Nearly all of these additions are freshly acquired, ensuring a dynamic rotation that guarantees a novel experience with each visit to the museum,” the American Automobile Experience website stated.
