KEARNEY — Students from the Kearney Community Learning Center (KCLC) summer school program, who will enter 4th grade this fall, are eagerly preparing to showcase their scientific discoveries at an upcoming science fair on Tuesday, July 9th. The event will be held from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the gymnasium of Northeast Elementary School.

At the outset of the summer program, these young students visited the Kiewit Luminarium, where they engaged with various scientific concepts and drew inspiration for their own science projects.

“Introducing our students to the Kiewit Luminarium early in the summer session has proven invaluable,” said Michelle Arehart, Director of KCLC. “It has allowed them to explore diverse scientific fields, encouraging them to develop insightful questions and hypotheses for their projects.”

The science fair will feature a wide range of projects covering topics from biology to physics, all conceived and executed by the students themselves. A panel of judges will evaluate the projects and award prizes for 1st through 3rd places prior to the public viewing at 4 p.m.

“Science fairs are crucial as they provide students with the opportunity to apply scientific principles to areas they are passionate about,” Arehart continued. “This hands-on approach not only enhances their academic skills but also fosters critical thinking and creativity.”

Parents, educators, and community members are warmly invited to attend this celebration of young scientific inquiry and innovation. The event promises to showcase the talent and dedication of these budding scientists.
