KEARNEY — As the back-to-school season approaches, the Dobytown Kiwanis of Kearney is gearing up to support over 600 local families with their annual backpack initiative.

This year, in response to current challenges, the organization is launching a ‘Virtual Stuff the Bus’ campaign to ensure all students receive the same high-quality school supplies. In previous years, donations of various brands and types often led to disparities in the supplies received by students.

This year, the Dobytown Kiwanis is requesting donations to purchase standardized school supplies. By centralizing the procurement process, they aim to provide every student with consistent and reliable essentials such as pencils, markers, notebooks, and more.

“We understand the financial strain that purchasing school supplies can place on families, especially during these times,” said Jason Mundorf, Superintendent of Kearney Public Schools. “The Virtual Stuff the Bus campaign allows Dobytown Kiwanis to maintain the quality and equality of supplies distributed, ensuring every student has the tools they need to succeed.”

Community members and businesses are invited to contribute to this initiative by making donations online: https://kps.app.neoncrm.com/forms/stuff-the-bus-1. Donations will be used to purchase supplies in bulk, maximizing the impact of every contribution.

“We are grateful for the ongoing support of our community,” added Mundorf. “Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of students in Kearney and Buffalo County as they prepare for the upcoming school year.
