Governor Jim Pillen, (Brian Neben, Central Nebraska Today)

LINCOLN — On Thursday, July 18, Governor Jim Pillen will be joined by state senators in unveiling a plan designed to slash property taxes owed by Nebraskans by about 50 percent. This, ahead of a special session that will convene July 25.

The plan is the culmination of conversations the Governor has had across the state since the adjournment of this year’s legislative session, as well as regular meetings with senators who have been focused on addressing this pressing issue.

In Nebraska, property tax collections have accelerated at a rapid rate. In a few short years, they will reach more than $1 million a day, or $6 billion a year. Nebraska is among states for highest property taxes in the nation and the Governor has made tax reform a central goal of his administration.
