HASTINGS — Morten Construction of Kearney finished replacing the old asphalt roads with concrete on the southern portion of Phase 4 of the ongoing Parkview Cemetery paving project.

The southern portion of Phase 4 is about 2/3 of the Phase IV work. The east-west road in Phase 4 was finished and opened before Memorial Day. The last concrete pour for the north-south roads in the southern portion of Phase 4 was on Friday, July 19.

Morten will open the east-west road through the southern portion of Phase 4 before they move to the northern portion of Phase 4. Crews will be doing cleanup work and will open the newly placed north-south concrete roads in the southern portion of Phase 4 when the test cylinders reach the required strength. North-south roads in the southern portion are expected to completely open in mid-August.

Morten is starting the north portion of Phase 4 on Monday, July 22. The work is anticipated to take 4 to 6 weeks to be completed and be opened to cemetery traffic in mid-September. The northern portion is between the main drive (Circle) and the north entrance to the cemetery. The north entrance to the Cemetery lines up with East 14th Street.

There will be times when Morten Construction may have the north entrance closed or used for construction equipment. It is recommended that visitors use the main entrance to the Cemetery that lines up with 13th Street while Morten is working on the north portion of Phase 4.
Morten Construction of Kearney has the $367,084 contract for Phase 4 of the cemetery project.

The aging asphalt roads at Parkview Cemetery are being replaced with concrete roads in six different phases. Phase 5 is scheduled for letting this summer with construction in the fall of 2024 or spring of 2025. Phase 5 will include roads in the most southern part of the Parkview Cemetery. Phase 5 also includes new concrete paving at the Mount Sinai cemetery on East 12th Street.
