GRAND ISLAND — A $20 movie prop was reported to be used for a transaction at a Git N Split location in Grand Island on Saturday, July 20.

According to the Grand Island Police Department, on Sunday, July 21, officers responded to a call for service in reference to a counterfeit currency at the Git N Split location located at 3320 Langenheder St.

At the location, officers contacted the reporting party, who advised that a counterfeit bill was used in a transaction from a customer that occurred on July 20.

The currency was identified as a fake with a black marker and the words stamped, “Motion Pictures Purposes,” instead of United States of American on the front and back of the $20.

Per the GIPD, the suspect has not yet been identified and the case is currently open.

This is not the first time this year that movie prop currency has been passed during a transaction in Grand Island.

At 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, officers responded to the Dollar General at 2121 N. Broadwell in reference to a counterfeit $100 being used to purchase items from the store.

The bill was found to be a movie prop.

Additionally, fake $100 bills have been circulating around Grand Island since the start of 2024.

The most recent incident was on Sunday, July 7 at 11:50 p.m.

Officers responded to the Super Saver location at 710 W. State St. in reference to counterfeit currency.

Officers made contact with Super Save employees who advised that an unknown male attempted to pass a counterfeit $100 to pay for groceries.

Once the bill was determined to be counterfeit, the male would pay using a credit card and leave.
