GRAND ISLAND — CHI Health St. Francis and the Hall County Tobacco Free Coalition explore the dangers of vaping at a free educational event for the community from 4 until 5 pm on Tuesday, August 6 at the Grand Island Public Library, 1124 W 2nd St.

“Learn the Truth: Vaping 101” exposes that most e-cigarette tobacco products contain nicotine–even brands claiming to be “nicotine-free.” The presentation will also discuss the health risks, including irreversible lung damage and disease, associated with this popular teen product.

E-cigarettes usage by adolescents has become an epidemic according to the American Lung Association–20% (5 million) of all youth use e-cigarettes, a 135% increase in just two years.

This presentation is free and open to the community. Pre-registration is not required.

For more information, contact the Regional Cancer Center at St. Francis by calling at (308) 398-8912.

The American Lung Association is very concerned that we are at risk of losing another generation to tobacco-caused diseases as the result of e-cigarettes.

The National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine concluded there is “substantial evidence” that if a youth or young adult uses an e-cigarette, they are at increased risk of using traditional cigarettes.

The Food and Drug Administration has not found any e-cigarette to be safe and effective in helping smokers quit.
