Woman arrested after attacking family member with a knife in front of children

GRAND ISLAND — A woman was arrested after she attacked a family member with a knife eight times in front of three children in Grand Island on Monday, July 15.

On Thursday, July 25, the Grand Island Police Department received a belated reported of an knife assault that occurred on 11th St. around 8 p.m.

It was reported that during a verbal altercation with a family member, Julissa Trevino grabbed a butcher knife from the kitchen and attacked them eight times causing lacerations to their head, face and arm.

Medical treatment was required for the injuries, including three staples to the top of the head and eight stitches to the chin.

There were three children, ages one, two and five, who were present and witnessed the incident.

According to the GIPD, Trevino, “displayed premeditation by grabbing the knife prior to the assault, and stabbing the victim, which could have caused death and did cause serious bodily injury to the victim by striking her several times in the face and head with a knife.”

Trevino was arrested for attempt of a Class 1 felony, first degree assault, two counts of use of a weapon to commit a felony and three counts of child abuse.
