Kearney man arrested after punching man at Buffalo Co. Fair; spitting at, resisting officer

KEARNEY — A Kearney man was arrested after he punched a man for possession of a dog, spitting on an officer and resisting arrest.

Isaac Whiteface, 19, has been charged with assault – causing bodily injury – Class 1 misdemeanor; assault a public officer with bodily fluid – Class 1 misdemeanor and resisting arrest, first offense, Class 1 misdemeanor.

Whiteface appeared for a hearing on July 26 in Buffalo County Court and pleaded not guilty to the charges. His bail was set at 10 percent of $5,000.

A pre-trail hearing was set for Aug. 22 at 1:30 p.m. and a jury trial was set for Oct. 7 at 9 a.m.

According to court documents, on July 25 at 10:46 pm. Officers with the Kearney Police Department were dispatched to the Buffalo County Fairgrounds in reference to an assault that occurred.

While other officers were en-route, one of the officers on scene radioed that the suspect had spit in his face.

Arriving on scene, officers made contact with Austin Gydesen who had lacerations to his eye, which was covered in blood.

Gydesen told officers that he tried stopping Isacc Whiteface from taking his pitbull dog, after which Whiteface allegedly punched Gydesen in the face three times.

Sierra Gronewood, who had possession of the dog, stated to officers that Whiteface had approached them in a confrontational manner demanding they hand over the dog.

Gronewood stated that Whiteface snatched the lease and the dog by the neck, Gydesen tried to stop him which resulted in the alleged assault.

Officers also contacted Breanna Whelan, Whiteface’s sister, who observed the assault. It was also corroborated that Whiteface was the one who spit on the officer.

Whiteface would resist arrest but would be transported to the Buffalo County Jail.
