JOHNSON LAKE — Two homes on Mallard Beach at Johnson Lake were destroyed as the result of a fire during the early morning hours of Saturday, Aug. 10.

According to the Gosper County Sheriff’s Office, at 1:20 a.m., deputies were dispatched to Drive 20, Lot 35 Mallard Beach at Johnson Lake in reference to a fire call for service.

Deputies arrived to find the house was fully engulfed in fire. The intensity of the fire caused it to spread to the neighboring residence at Lot 36.

Deputies and firefighters with the Elwood Fire Department assisted residents who had escaped the resident, but discovered they sustained minor injuries.

The Nebraska State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting with the fire investigation, the cause of the fire is under investigation and has yet to be determined.

It is suspected that both homes are a total loss.

The Gosper County Sheriff’s Department, Lexington Volunteer Fire Department, Cozad Fire and Rescue and Eustis Fire Department assisted on scene.
