Man arrested after threatening group of juveniles with firearms, making terroristic threats

GRAND ISLAND — A man was arrested after he allegedly brandished a firearm and made terroristic threats to a group of juveniles in the parking lot of a Grand Island Walmart of Tuesday, Aug. 13.

According to the Grand Island Police Department, at 7:35 p.m., officers responded to the Walmart located at 2250 N. Diers Ave. after a report of threats made involving a firearm.

A man, later identified as Jason Jelinek, was witnessed pulling into the parking lot and exiting his vehicle. He would approach a group of four juveniles that in in and around a vehicle.

Jelinek would allegedly brandish a firearm towards the vehicle and the group, making verbal threats towards them. One of the juveniles had a one-year-old baby with her.

After brandishing the firearm, Jelinek got back in his pickup and drove away quickly before officers arrived on scene.

Officers later made contact with Jelinek, who made statements affirming that he had approached the vehicle and had a firearm in his possession.

Video surveillance from Walmart confirmed that Jelinek had approached the group with a gun.

Jelinek was arrested for four counts of terroristic threats, five counts of child abuse and use of a firearm to commit a felony.
