GRAND ISLAND – The Birthing Pavilion at the Nebraska State Fair offers people the chance to see everything from piglets to chicks and their parents.
Jeremi Wurtz is one of the attending veterinarians at the Birthing Pavilion. He is a veterinarian in Central City.
The Birthing Pavilion “is to showcase the general public ag livestock and to bring the birthing process to them in a first-person point of view,” he said.
Farm animals in the Birthing Pavilion came from a variety of locations, including the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Sutton, Alliance, Merrick County, and Hall County.
“It’s a great opportunity for people to see where animals start their lives and visualize the birthing process,” he said. People can connect with University of Nebraska-Lincoln staff and veterinarians as they are touring the building.
Attending veterinarians are on duty during the day at the Birthing Pavilion. University students stay overnight in the Birthing Pavilion. It is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, during the State Fair.
