KEARNEY — A new Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office deputy was sworn into duty during the meeting of the county commissioners on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

Sheriff Neil Miller introduced Anthony Joshua “AJ” Faz as the newest deputy for the sheriff’s office.

Miller said that Faz was born and raised in Kearney and that his parents are Tony and Shannon Faz, who also reside in Kearney.

Tony Faz is an officer with the Kearney Police Department and has served for 23 years. “AJ said his biggest influence in becoming a law enforcement officer was his father,” Miller stated.

Faz attended Kearney High School where he competed on the varsity soccer team that won KHS’s first state title in 2018.

He continued his secondary education at the University of Nebraska – Kearney and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 2023.

Faz worked at the Buffalo County Jail as a corrections officer, prior to taking his position as a deputy sheriff, Miller said.

Faz is married to Mikayla Faz, a resident of Callaway.

Miller then invited Tony Faz to come forward and pin the badge on AJ. Afterward, Miller administered the oath to Faz.
