KEARNEY — With SkyWest Airlines set to begin service at Kearney Regional Airport on Nov. 1, residents can start booking their future flights.
Brenda Jensen, Kearney City Manager, told the city council during their meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 27 that flyers can start booking their spots through the Kearney Regional Airport.
SkyWest will operate 50 passenger regional jets with 12 nonstop roundtrip flights per week to Denver.
Jensen said that there will be five days, Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with two daily flights, with Tuesday and Wednesday only having one flight.
The first outgoing flight from the Kearney Regional Airport to Denver will be Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m.
The Kearney Regional Airport did not that, travelers who have received notification that their Kearney to Denver flights with Denver Air Connect that were cancelled starting on Nov. 1 will have their tickets automatically reinstated by United Airlines, which operates SkyWest.
“This is notice was sent to ticket holders due to the SkyWest schedule being deleted from the booking system, however, United is currently working to upload the Denver Air Connection schedule and when that process is complete tickets will be reinstated for travel from Kearney Regional Airport,” per the Kearney Regional Airport.
SkyWest had been the previous carrier for the City of Kearney and saw increasing numbers of fliers until the COVID-19 pandemic occurred in March 2020.
In 2022, SkyWest announced it intended to drop federally subsidized air service in Kearney and 28 other airports in the United States.
Denver Air Connection has had a two-year contract from November 2022 to October 2024 to provide EAS service to Kearney.
SkyWest has been approved for a three-year contract.
Kearney Mayor, Stan Clouse commented, “we are excited to welcome back SkyWest as our EAS carrier. They provided excellent service for Kearney before and we expect they will do this same under this new contract.”
