KEARNEY — At 12:03 p.m. this afternoon, the fire alarm at Kearney High School was activated, prompting the immediate evacuation of all students to designated alternate sites.

The Kearney Police Department and Kearney Fire Department promptly responded to the scene and conducted a thorough investigation.

After a comprehensive assessment, it was confirmed that no fire was present in the building. The cause of the alarm activation is still under investigation. It was determined that the building was safe, and students were allowed to return to school.

“We are grateful for the swift response from the Kearney Police and Fire Departments,” said Jeffrey Schwartz, KPS Director of Student Services and Safety. “Our top priority is always the safety of our students and staff, and we are pleased that the situation was resolved without incident. We will continue to work closely with authorities to determine the cause of the alarm.”

We will provide updates as more information becomes available.
