Story from CentralNebraskaToday.com’s Ethan McCormick.

Graduate transfer quarterback Reagan Jones had 215 total yards of offense and three touchdowns as UNK upset 22nd ranked Northwest Missouri State 21-14.

The Lopers move to 2-0 while the Bearcats drop to 2-0 at Ron and Carol Cope Stadium Saturday night. UNK beat Northwest Missouri for the 2nd time in the last three meetings at home. Jones was all over the place on offense, throwing for 141 yards and running for 90 yards. The running back room was quiet for the Lopers throughout the game, as Isaiah Harris and Zane Schawang combined for just 22 yards. Zane Schawang led the Lopers receiving, with four receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown. Reggie Anderson was the next leading receiver with 33 yards.

The Loper defense was flying all over the place, led by junior safety Jovan Marsh who totaled nine tackles and one pass breakup. As a unit, the Loper defense had two sacks and nine tackles for a loss. They also won the turnover battle, by intercepting Bearcat QB Chris Ruhnke two times. The second interception came on the game-sealing play in the 4th quarter when Ruhnke took a 22-yard shot to the end zone, but threw it straight to senior safety Jamere Jones.

After their bye week, UNK will face the Central Oklahoma Bronchos on September 21st. UCO is 1-0 after defeating NAIA Langston 72-0.
