School bus involved in collision near high school, two injured

GRAND ISLAND — Two people were injured after a school bus and a car collided near the high school during the afternoon of Monday, Sept. 9.

According to Grand Island Police Department Captain Dean Elliott, the accident took place near the intersection of Cottage St. and Park Ave., northeast of Grand Island Senior High.

A car with heavy front-end damage appeared to have collided with the smaller school bus, which turned over on its passenger’s side.

There were two adults and one student onboard the bus at the time of the accident. The two were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The student was uninjured.

According to Grand Island Public Schools, the bus is owned by Holiday Inn Express.

The accident remains under investigation by the GIPD.
