By Alex Hammeke Sep 12, 2024 | 11:02 PM

In a highly regarded matchup in Class A, Millard South dominated over the Kearney High Bearcats Thursday night, 52-3. Click here to listen to the broadcast replay.

The game started off with Kearney going for a three and out on their first drive, and Gabe Prucha would score from eight yards out to start off the Patriots scoring explosion. Prucha would add two more touchdowns within a minute of each other. Kearney wasn’t able to find a response, going three and out on their second offensive drive, and giving up the ball on a Levi Pohafl fumble on the third drive.

After a Trent Van Surksum 30yd field goal to end the first quarter, the Bearcats were able to start getting some momentum, including a punt fake pass from Jake Kracl to Josh Dolence to extend a drive. The Bearcats momentum waxed and waned at times, as the Bearcats werent able to string together the momentum into points

Unfortunately, Millard South went to the air to score all of their second quarter points, with quarterback Jett Thomalla connecting with Prucha for a 14 yard score, and then going for the long distance air mail, with future Florida State Seminole Chase Loftin hauling in a pass from 81 yards out.

Kearney would score in the final seconds of the second quarter, with Kracl nailing a 40 yard field goal to put the Bearcats on the board.

With a running clock in the second half, Thomalla and the Patriots would score through the air twice more, connecting with Dashawn Prince on a 62 yard strike, and finally scoring on a 25 yard pass to Aamir Hill.

Unofficially, Kearney only gained 33 yards of offense, with 70 yards of passing offense to -37 yards of rushing offense. Griffin Novacek went 9/21 passing for 58 yards, while Thomalla was 17/22 passing for 370 yards and four touchdowns. Prucha would score four touchdowns (three rushing, one receiving) with 67 yards on the ground and 26 in the air. Millard South’s leading reciever was Aamir Hill, who had 105 yards and a touchdown on six catches.

Kearney drops their first match of the season, and will now get ready for homecoming against the Omaha North Vikings next Friday. The Vikings defeated Omaha Central 28-18 tonight. Because of Nebraska Football vs. Illinois on Friday, Kearney High Football will be on Nebraska’s Hot Country Y102 (102.3 FM).
