GRAND ISLAND — A student’s Snapchat post claiming to be hiding during an active lockdown at Grand Island Senior High has led to a referral to the county attorney for terroristic threats.

According to the Grand Island Police Department, the Grand Island Senior High (GISH) administration received reports from concerned parents about a lockdown at the school during the early afternoon of Wednesday, Sept. 11.

The parents were attempting to pick up their children due to the possible situation. However, there was no active incident at GISH that would have caused a lockdown, per the GIPD.

A GISH staff member later provided a screenshot of a 17-year-old female student’s Snapchat account in which the student claimed to be hiding in the bathroom due to an active lockdown.

The student posted it to their story, allowing their friends to view the picture and claim.

Officers contacted the student who made admissions about posting the story and the claim of a lockdown. The parent of the student was contacted.

The student was given school consequences per GIPS policy and was released to their parent.

The student will be referred to the Hall County Attorney’s Office for terroristic threats.
