HASTINGS — As you are aware, we communicated with you yesterday regarding social media posts that were perceived by some as implying threats of school violence.

This morning, we were alerted to an alarming image of HMS with the caption: “HMS SCHOOL SHOOTING, YOU ARE IN TERRIBLE DANGER.”

We have been working with the Hastings Police Department and have been able to find the source of the post. We are thankful for the partnership we have with the HPD, they are a tremendous partner. At no time were students or staff members in danger, this was a social media post with the intent of causing an extreme disruption. The individual responsible will have swift and appropriate consequences.

I am so sorry to have to continue to send these types of messages as we know this caused several students, parents, and staff members to not feel safe and that is unacceptable. HMS is safe and operating as usual with extra adult support.
