The KHS Varsity Bearcats split a double header with Lincoln East Tuesday evening (9/10) in Lincoln while the JV went 0-2 on the night.

In the varsity matchup, the Bearcat bats led them to victory with 18 hits in the game.  Kelsey Hatcher went 4 for 4 while Greeley Cargill was 3 for 4.  Alexa Jacobsen hit two home runs and was intentionally walked.  Avery Lonshore led the team with 3 RBI and two home runs.  In the circle, Lauren Schmeits pitched a complete game allowing 6 runs over 6 innings.  This was good for a 14-6 Kearney victory.

In game 2, the Bearcats came up short in their comeback losing 11-9.  Hatcher once again led the team with 3 hits.  Jacobsen led the team with 2 RBI.  Cargill got the start, allowing 6 runs over 3 innings.  Ava Magnani came into the game in the 4th inning allowing 5 runs over the next 3 innings.

On Thursday, (9/12) the Bearcats traveled back to Lincoln for a single game against Lincoln Northstar.  Despite scoring first, Kearney was on the short end of the game, losing 10-2.  The Bearcats managed just 3 hits against the Navigators.  Lauren Schmeits pitched the majority of the game, with Greeley Cargill providing relief.

Saturday, (9/14) Kearney traveled back to Fremont to make up the rainout from a couple weeks earlier for a single game.  The Bearcats needed a rally in the top of the 7th inning for a comeback 8-4 victory.  Kelsey Hatcher and Alexa Jacobsen each had 2 hits.  Jacobsen had another home run which helped her lead the team with 3 RBI.  Schmeits pitched a complete game for KHS, allowing 4 runs over 7 innings.

With the action last week, the Kearney varsity is now 9-6 on the season.  They return to action at Patriot Park for double headers Tuesday (9/17) and Thursday (9/19) against Norfolk and Columbus before heading to Papillion for the Monarch Invite Friday and Saturday.
