Grand Island woman accused of stabbing her sister with knife, pleads not guilty

GRAND ISLAND — A Grand Island woman accused of attacking a family member with a knife eight times in front of children has pleaded not guilty to various charges.

Julissa Trevino, 23, has been charged with an attempt of a Class 1 felony, a Class 2 felony; use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, Class 2 felony; first degree assault, Class 2 felony; use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, Class 2 felony and three counts of negligent child abuse – no injury, Class 1 misdemeanor.

Trevino’s case had been bound over to Hall County District Court, where she pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

A pre-trial hearing has been set for Nov. 5 at 1:30 p.m. and a jury trial for Dec. 2 at 9 a.m.

Trevino’s bond had been set at 10 percent of $500,000, an amount which she has sought to reduce. A hearing has been set for Thursday, Sept. 19 to discuss reducing the bond amount.

On Thursday, July 25, the Grand Island Police Department received a belated reported of a knife assault that occurred on 11th St. around 8 p.m.

It was reported that during a verbal altercation with a family member, Julissa Trevino grabbed a butcher knife from the kitchen and attacked them eight times causing lacerations to their head, face and arm.

Medical treatment was required for the injuries, including three staples to the top of the head and eight stitches to the chin.

There were three children, ages one, two and five, who were present and witnessed the incident.

According to the GIPD, Trevino, “displayed premeditation by grabbing the knife prior to the assault, and stabbing the victim, which could have caused death and did cause serious bodily injury to the victim by striking her several times in the face and head with a knife.”
