KHS Softball Sweeps Columbus

The Kearney High Softball team won both games Thursday night by run rule against Columbus.  Game 1 ended after 6 innings, 13-5.  Game 2 finished after 4 ½, 9-0.

In game 1, the Bearcats scored 4 in the first inning and 5 in the 6th on their way to scoring 13 runs on 20 hits.  Alexa Jacobsen, Olivia Wright and Avery Longshore each recorded 3 hits that game.  Emily Drackely led the team with 3 RBI.  In the circle, Lauren Schmeits earned the win, allowing 5 runs over 5 innings while striking out 9.  Ava Magnani finished the last inning, striking out 2.

In game 2, Kearney scored in every inning they sent batters to the plate while shutting out the Discoverers.  4 batters each had 2 hits.  Kennedy Lee drove in 2.  Longshore pitched a complete 5 inning shutout, allowing 4 hits while striking out 6.

The 11-6 Bearcats leave Kearney early Friday morning for the Papillion-LaVista Monarch Invitational.  On Friday, they will play Papillion-LaVista at 11 AM and Lincoln Southeast at 1 PM.  Saturday’s games will be determined after pool play finishes Friday.  The Bearcats return to Kearney next Tuesday for a double-header against Lincoln Southwest at 5 PM.

The KHS JV softball team split 2 games with Columbus Thursday evening.  Columbus took game 1 13-0, while Kearney won game 2 10-6.  This brings the JV record to 8-10.  They head to Doris Bair softball complex in Lincoln for a tournament on Saturday before playing Lincoln Southwest Tuesday, September 24 at home.
