KEARNEY — Glenwood Elementary has successfully completed its first Book Blast through Books Are Fun, an event designed to enhance students’ home libraries and foster a love for reading.

In an effort to explore new ways to get books into the hands of students, Glenwood opted to forego the traditional book fair this fall and instead hosted the Book Blast.

The event saw overwhelming support, with 95 families generating over $15,000 in book donations. These funds will be used to provide books for students and enhance classroom and school libraries. One of the unique aspects of the Book Blast program is that it ensures that every student receives at least one book, regardless of their participation in the fundraising efforts.

However, thanks to the generosity of Glenwood families, extended family members, and friends, every student at Glenwood Elementary received a minimum of 8 books. The books arrived and were sent home with students on Monday, September 23rd.

“We are thrilled with the response and support from our school community,” said Tracy Schall, Glenwood Elementary Principal. “This event ensures that every child at Glenwood will have multiple books to call their own, and we’re excited to see the impact this will have on their love for reading.”
