KEARNEY — Axtell Community School students made a visit to the NRG Media’s Kearney studios during the afternoon of Wednesday, Oct. 10.
The sophomore students were in Kearney after taking part in the 28th Annual Career Exploration Day, hosted by the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce and Nebraska National Guard during the morning.
Mark Reid, NRG Media Kearney Operations Manager, lead the tour and spoke about the history of AM and FM radio stations, the various formats, how the technology surrounding radio has changed, etc.
Reid also explained the three stations housed in Kearney, KGFW 1340 AM, which focuses on news, talk and sports, Hits 106, a top 40s station and Y102, playing the latest country hits.
Following the introduction, the students broke off to get a deeper dive from Reid in the Hits 106 and KGFW studios, or went with Y102 morning and afternoon host, Lisa Williams, who spoke more in depth about the country station and her work.
