Horizon Middle School Principal Amber Lewis honored with two prestigious awards

KEARNEY — Horizon Middle School Principal Amber Lewis has been named the Region IV Principal of the Year and the Outstanding New Principal of the Year by the Nebraska Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

These awards recognize her exceptional leadership and commitment to the success of her students and staff.

Lewis, who has served as principal of Horizon Middle School since 2022, is known for her dedication to fostering a positive school culture and ensuring the academic and personal growth of her students.

Prior to her role at Horizon, she was a social studies teacher at Kearney High School and served as the Horizon Middle School assistant principal for three years. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska Kearney and holds a Master’s in History and Educational Leadership from UNK. She is currently working on her Educational Specialist degree through Doane University.

Amber Lewis expressed her gratitude, stating, “It is an honor to be recognized by my fellow administrators in the region and I am humbled by these awards. Working with such an amazing team at Horizon Middle School and in the Kearney community is a privilege. Together, we strive to create an environment where every student can thrive. I am so proud to be an HMS Jaguar!”

Superintendent Jason Mundorf commended Lewis on her achievements, saying, “Amber’s leadership has been a cornerstone of Horizon Middle School’s success. Her dedication to her students and staff is remarkable, and these awards are a testament to her tireless efforts to make a difference in education. Amber cares deeply about her students and staff and we are incredibly proud to have her in our district.”
