KEARNEY — – Jason Owens, principal of the Hanny Arram Center for Success, was honored by the Buffalo County Community Partners Board of Directors in September with the Above and Beyond Volunteer Award.

“He not only helps his students succeed in education but knows each student and their families personally.

Jason goes above and beyond to understand each student’s unique situation and what their needs are to succeed in the classroom and beyond,” said Nadia Saadi, Community Partners board member.

“I don’t get to do what I do at our school without support. Our staff is fantastic and picks up things outside their jobs to make it the best place for our scholars,” said Owens.

“Our ant mentality is carrying the weight of others when needed. We run on this philosophy at the Hanny Arram Center. Our staff is fantastic and picks up things outside their jobs to make it the best place for our scholars,” said Owens.

Buffalo County Youth Advisory Board members who are also students at Hanney Arram share their support for Owens receiving this award. Aralynn Hanna shared, “He is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure that the scholars in his school are getting their needs met, and also being present in our community.” Madalynn Hanna added, “He truly understands you where you are at.” And Avelina Peplinski said, “With his support and encouragement, he is the reason many kids got a second chance to succeed.”

Owens has elevated youth voices by leading collaborations with Buffalo County Community Partners. “He is always first willing to talk about the difficult and tough topics that youth and our families face in Kearney.” shared CEO, Denise Zwiener.

The board honors individuals who make contributions within their communities through innovation, investment, and identifying issues that connect people to resources. Winners are recognized as they give humbly, with a passion for others, and often bring lived experiences that guide their decision-making in the community.
