GRAND ISLAND – Larry and Kris Coates of Grand Island go all out decorating their yard with a scene with life-size skeletons, and they change the display’s theme daily.

Ironically, their address matches their passion: 1031, as in 1031 Sagewood Avenue.

The Coats begin putting up the displays on Oct. 1.

In the three years they’ve been decorating their front yard with skeletons, they have only had five duplicate themes.

On Oct. 21, the display had two skeletons sitting in a kayak, and the skeletons were fishing. Other Halloween decorations are placed throughout their front yard.

“We come up with ideas that we think kids would enjoy when they see them,” Kris said.

The next display they may set up would have a Star Wars or Super Heroes theme. The Coates also decorate their front yard for Christmas.

“Kris really gets into Halloween,” Larry said. “We’re the Halloween house.”

“All of the neighborhood kids know they can come up and look at the display,” Kris said.

Kris said on Facebook, there are some groups with Halloween themes that you can join. She uses those sites to get ideas for some of their displays.
