KEARNEY —The City of Kearney, on behalf of NPPD, announces that on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024, eastbound 39th Street will be closed from 2nd Avenue to Central Avenue for the removal and replacement of aged electrical distribution infrastructure.
All turning movements to travel east at the intersection of 39th Street and 2nd Avenue will be closed. Westbound traffic on 39th Street will remain open.
Additionally, upgrades to the traffic signal system at 39th Street and 2nd Avenue will take place on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024 between 9:00 am – 11:00 am, during which time traffic will be manually directed by law enforcement. Eastbound 39th Street is expected to reopen on Friday, October 25, 2024, weather permitting.
Due to the often-heavy traffic volume in the area, motorists are urged to use extreme caution when traveling through the work zone, stay off cell phones, and watch out for equipment and crew members.
