NEBRASKA — Voters across Nebraska voted through dueling initiatives to enshrine the state’s current 12-week abortion ban in the constitution.

The two initiatives on the ballot, 434 and 439, both dealt with the abortion issue. For 434, it sought to make the abortion ban permanent, while 439 sought to end the abortion ban.

According to the Nebraska Secretary of State, Nebraskans cast 496,586 votes, 55 percent, “For” and 401,072, 44 percent, “Against,” in the case of 434.

On the other side, for 439, Nebraskans cast 462,756 votes, 51 percent, “Against,” the measure, while 436,750, 48 percent voted, “For,” the measure.

“Florida, Nebraska and South Dakota became the first states since Roe was overturned where abortion opponents prevailed on a ballot measure,” according to the Associated Press.
