Westridge Middle School student detained after causing disruption

GRAND ISLAND — A Westridge Middle School and Skills Academy student was handcuffed and detained following a disruption during the afternoon of Wednesday, Nov. 6.

According to the Grand Island Police Department, a reporting party at Westridge requested assistance with an offender for causing a disruption to the school environment.

Per the GIPD, the offender had eloped from the office, was not following verbal directions of the staff, entering off-limit classrooms, knocking on doors, climbing lockers and creating a disruption to the learning environment.

The offender was given multiple warnings to go back to the office but refused.

The offender was then escorted by an officer to the office, during which, the offender screamed, cursed, resisted detainment and kicked a staff member and the officer.

The offender was eventually handcuffed and detained for the safety of staff, students and the offender.

The case is currently under investigation, per the GIPD.
