GRAND ISLAND — With a new chapter unfolding at the Heartland Events Center, the first position for the new management has been filled.

Kyler Tarwater has hit the ground running in Grand Island as the new executive director for the Heartland Events Center. Tarwater comes to central Nebraska after helping manage the Topeka Performing Arts Center, which means he’s also bringing with him a history of booking events in the Midwest.

“The people of Grand Island have made me feel at home from the outset, leaving me very optimistic about the opportunity for strong support and community partnerships,” Tarwater said.

Tarwater is the first local hire for VenuWorks, the company charged with managing the Heartland Events Center.

“We are honored to be entrusted with the management of such a pivotal community hub,” said VenuWorks President Steve Peters. “We’re committed to enhancing its value to both the local and regional communities.”

VenuWorks has also invested in this new opportunity financially to the tune of $300,000, which will go toward modernizing the Heartland Events Center’s food service. The aim is to generate significant additional revenue over the next five years, and with it a few additional jobs. VenuWorks is currently hiring for a Director of Sales & Marketing, Director of Food & Beverage and a Director of Finance.

The City of Grand Island will also be thanking Fonner Park Exposition & Events Center, Inc. for their role in a smooth transition during a December City Council Meeting.
