AURORA — The Aurora Police Department will be participating in the Nebraska Highway Safety Office’s special enforcement mobilization, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, starting Dec. 13, 2024, to Jan. 1, 2025.
This nationwide, high-visibility enforcement initiative aims to reduce the severe consequences of impaired driving and is supported by increased law enforcement presence. In 2022, 6,325 drivers were arrested for DUI and there were 77 alcohol-related fatalities and another 3.6% increase in DUI’s in 2023.
This mobilization is dedicated to keeping our roads safe and reducing the number of impaired driving crashes. By raising awareness and enhancing enforcement, the goal is to save lives and prevent the tragedies caused by impaired driving.
“During the Christmas and New Year holiday periods, we often see a rise in drunk-driving deaths. In fact, recent data shows December drunk driving deaths are the highest in 15 years. As a result, you’ll likely see more law enforcement on the roads as part of Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over. The campaign, which runs December 11 – January 1, aims to educate people about the dangers and consequences of driving drunk,” according to the United States Department of Transportation.
