HASTINGS — There is the potential for drizzle and light showers late Christmas Day into Thursday, the pattern looks to turn colder as the calendar turns over 2025.
There continues to be mild and dry conditions for the pre-holiday travel period the next few days. There could be scattered fog Christmas Eve night into Christmas Day morning, particularly in the east and south of the Tri-Cities, according to the National Weather Service – Hastings.
Dry conditions and mild temperatures look to persist through the daytime hours of Christmas Day.
There looks to be the potential for drizzle and showers during late Christmas Day as a system moves into the area. Models have been trending toward the system being slower to arrive and slower to leave.
The primary precipitation would be drizzle or light rain, with little in the way of a risk of wintry precipitation owing to the mild airmass that will be in place.
With the slower evolution of the system as a while, there could be low end precipitation chances continuing through Friday.
Another warmup is in store for the weekend as weak upper-level high pressure ridging that moves in.
Looking ahead to next year, long range ensemble models have been trending toward a colder and more active pattern to start 2025.
“Broader teleconnections would seem to support this change as they generally trend more negative, and this has been a signal in place for several days now,” NWS Hastings notes.
