GRAND ISLAND – Hall County Commissioners elected officers Jan. 14.

Ron Peterson is the chairman, and Scott Sorensen is the vice-chairman. They were elected by unanimous votes.

In other business, Peterson told Commissioners that state Department of Health and Human Services staff members would move out of the Pine Street building by March 1, and the building is then scheduled for demolition. Two trees north of the building were moved to Hall County Park.

Facilities Director Doone Humphrey talked to the Board about the one-block closing of Pine Street adjacent to the Hall County Courthouse for the Courthouse addition project. Humphrey said that street closing signs will need to be posted, and the section of the street to be closed will need to have barricades at the north and south ends of the street.

Commissioners voted 7-0 to approve spending $189,743 on new computer servers for the county, with CDW as the vendor. Commissioners also approved spending $33,159 on equipment related to the servers.

Commissioners voted 7-0 to promote one deputy county attorney from an Attorney 1 classification to an Attorney 2 classification. The deputy county attorney will have additional responsibilities including working with mental health board hearings.

Commissioners voted 7-0 to begin union negotiations with Hall County Sheriff’s deputies in March.
