OMAHA — An Omaha man has been lodged in Douglas County Jail after a pursuit early Saturday morning that included an officer-involved shooting in Omaha. The vehicle involved has since been determined to be stolen.

At approximately 12:40 a.m., a trooper observed a Jeep Commander speeding at over 90 miles per hour on Interstate 80 near 96th Street in Omaha. The trooper attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to yield and fled westbound.

The trooper initiated a pursuit.

The suspect vehicle exited I-80 at the Q Street exit and continued fleeing eastbound on Q before turning southbound on 108th Street. The driver eventually pulled into an apartment complex near 108th and Harrison. Additional troopers arrived on the scene and officers from other agencies began responding to the scene.

The vehicle briefly came to a stop in the parking lot near a garage and troopers attempted a felony traffic stop. The driver then began ramming patrol vehicles, a garage, and a retaining wall in an attempt to flee. The driver then drove his vehicle directly toward troopers and two troopers fired shots. The driver was not struck and was able to drive a short distance before crashing into multiple parked vehicles in the parking lot.

After the crash, the suspect attempted to walk away from the scene. Another trooper successfully deployed a taser and the suspect was taken into custody. The driver was identified as Timothy Sorensen, 42, of Bellevue. Sorensen was not injured during the incident. No troopers were injured in the incident. Troopers have since determined that the Jeep was stolen.

Sorensen was medically cleared and has been lodged in Douglas County Jail for flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, assault on an officer while using a vehicle, driving under suspension, driving under the influence – 3rd offense, motor vehicle theft, leaving the scene of a crash, criminal mischief, and failure to obey a lawful order.
