Central Nebraska had five individual state champions at this year’s NSAA Girls Wrestling State Championships, held at the CHI Health Center in Omaha.
Overall the area had 22 medalists.
Carsyn McBride won Kearney’s first individual state champion in the Class A 125lb class, with a 7-0 decision over Mileena Notaro from Lincoln East. She wrapped up her junior season with a 48-2 record.
At 140lbs, Kayden Sipp from Adams Central claimed her second straight title. After winning in sudden victory last year, she completed her undefeated season with a 8-0 Major Decision over Kyra Hains of Lincoln East. Her junior season wraps up with a perfect 40-0 record.
Grand Island won a state title at 155lbs, with Anyia Roberts taking down Zoey Barber from Omaha Westside in a 7-3 decision.
In Class B, Abby Negley completed a perfect season with a 12-2 major decision over Alejandra Reyes in the B105 state title.
Arcadia/Loup City’s lone state wrestling qualifier, Rylee Kursave, took the Class B 170lbs championship with a pin over Catalina Jones of Louisville.
In the team championships, Grand Island placed sixth in Class A, followed by Lexington in 11th, Kearney in 12th, and Adams Central in 13th. Minden placed 10th in the Class B team championship, with Broken Bow taking 15th and Aurora 21st. Norfolk won the Class A title, with Omaha Westside taking the runner-up spot and Lincoln East in third place. Yutan easily claimed the Class B team title, with a 33 point gap between the Chieftans and runner-up Columbus Lakeview. Conestoga took third place in Class B.
