LINCOLN — Lincoln Police say a man is dead and a woman in critical condition following a domestic disturbance Wednesday afternoon.
Police Chief Michon Morrow says officers were called to the area of 84th and Sandalwood Drive on a report of a woman who had been struck by a car that was driven by a man.
She says two young women who saw what happened put the injured woman in their vehicle. “They drove away eastbound and he ended up following at what we believe was likely a high rate of speed where he hits their vehicle,” Morrow says.
The vehicle then spun out and ended up in the front yard of a home on Indian Hills Drive. Morrow says the suspect then approached the vehicle and shot the woman several times. She was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
Morrow says the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound. She did not indicate if he shot himself, but only one gun was found at the scene. Investigators are still sorting out all the details, including the relationship between the man and woman, both described as being in their 20’s.
Portions of 84th Street south of ‘O’ Street remain shut down and Lux Middle School briefly went into secure status.
