KEARNEY — A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for counties along the Interstate 80 corridor and north during the afternoon of Friday, Feb. 28.
The National Weather Service in Hastings has issued a Fire Weather Watch for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect from Friday afternoon through Friday evening.
The counties in the watch included Dawson, Buffalo, Hall, Hamilton, Valley, Greeley, Nance, Sherman and Howard. The National Weather Service in North Platte has added Custer County to their own Fire Weather Watch.
A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible Red Flag Warnings.
Winds are expected to blow out of the northwest at 15 to 25 mph with some gusts up to 40 mph. Relative humidity is expected to be as low as 20 percent.
Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
