After falling to Orlando in Thursday’s match that decided first place in the Pro Volleyball Federation, the Omaha Supernovas bounced back with a sweep of the Indy Ignite (25-19, 25-23, 27-25).
The Supernovas, now 9-4, now have a two match lead on second place with the Vegas Thrill being swept on their home floor against Grand Rapids.
“I’m proud of our team and how we obviously bounced back,” Head Coach Laura “Bird” Kuhn said. “Everyone’s evolving, everyone’s getting better as the season goes on I’m proud of this group for their resilience.”
Omaha was led by a 16 kill performance from Brooke Nuneviller, while Reagan Cooper had 10. Emily Londot and Camila Gomez both had seven kills, while Natalia Valentin-Anderson had 29 assists. Omaha had 12 blocks from six players, led by Londot with four.
Omaha will have three weeks on the road (at Columbus 3/5, at Indy 3/13, at Orlando 3/15) before returning to the CHI Health Center on March 22nd against the Ignite.
SET 1: With Omaha winning 10 of the first 14 points, Indy would only cut the lead down to 12-11. The Supernovas would then take six of the next seven points on kills from Emily Londot and Reagan Cooper, alongside two serve errors and an attack error from the Ignite. The Supernovas would use two blocks in the final five points to take the win, the first from Kayla Caffey, and the second one from Cooper for set point.
SET 2: Indy kept the second match much closer, with fourteen ties. Indy would briefly take the lead in the middle of the set, before Omaha was able to take advantage and win four of the final seven points for the set win. Cooper and Nuneviller both had six kills in the set, while Caffey had two blocks.
SET 3: Much like the second set, the third set featured eleven ties and two set points. Londot would score four straight points, with three blocks and one kill to push Omaha to an early 8-5 lead. Indy would briefly take the lead 17-16, and had the opportunity to force a fourth set, but the Ignite’s tenth service error would allow the Supernovas to take three of the final four points for the sweep. The defensive effort put Omaha over the top, with seven of their twelve blocks showing up in the final set. Fitting enough, the seventh block was from Natalia Valentin-Anderson for match point.
