GRAND ISLAND — Weather permitting, work will begin March 24 on U.S. Highway 30 (US-30), from Claude Road west to US-30 North Road, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
Werner Construction, of Hastings, will install a crossover on US-30 and switch westbound traffic head-tohead onto the eastbound lanes from Claude Road to North Road. The existing westbound lanes will be removed and replaced with 10-inch doweled concrete pavement on stabilized subgrade. Johnstown Road
North will be closed from US-30 to Westgate Road during the construction of the new intersection.
Businesses on Johnstown Road will have access from Westgate Road. The Claude Road crossing at US-30 will also be closed.
Motorists are asked to use an alternate route during the construction of the new pavement.
Traffic will be maintained on US-30 with temporary traffic controls and signs. A 10-foot width restriction will be in effect.
Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.
