AXTELL — Weather permitting, work will begin tomorrow, March 20, on U.S. Highway 6 (US-6), from reference post 174.01 to reference post 182.11, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

Vontz Paving, of Hastings, is the contractor for this project. Work includes asphalt paving, grading, drainage structure work, traffic light replacement, and concrete work for turning radius improvement.

Traffic will be maintained with pilot car and flaggers for a majority of the work. A 12-foot width restriction will be in effect. Anticipated completion is Sept. 30, 2025.

The traffic signal pole in the northeast corner of the junction of N-10 and US-6 will be relocated to improve the turning radius of that junction. The work at the intersection will begin on March 20. It is anticipated that traffic signal at this intersection be deactivated for approximately a week starting on March 31.

The intersection will be controlled with stop signs on US-6 at the junction. The traffic on US-6 will be required to stop. The traffic on N-10 will not be required to stop at the junction unless there is train traffic.

Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.
