Vehicle catches fire at Speedee Mart gas pump in Kearney

KEARNEY — A vehicle caught fire while at a gas pump at a Phillips 66 Speedee Mart location in Kearney during the late morning hours of Thursday, April 10.

At 11 a.m., the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the south Speedee Mart location at 108 2nd Ave. for the report of a vehicle that was on fire and fully engulfed in front of a gas pump.

On scene, firefighters quickly extinguished a fire appearing to originate in the engine bay of Subaru four door SUV. The gas pump the vehicle was parked in front of was also damaged from the flames and heat from the fire.

There was no word on potential injuries or the cause of the fire on scene.

The Kearney Police Department assisted with traffic control near the busy intersection of 2nd Ave. and Talmadge St.

CHI Health Good Samaritan EMS also responded to the incident.
